Pharmaceutical distributor recalls packages of VIAGRA and depression medication after mix-up

NOT the right one to pick me up! The pharmaceutical company packages VIAGRA and depression drugs together after a “product mix-up” – which triggers an urgent recall

  • The pharmaceutical distributor has voluntarily recalled packs of sildenafil and trazodone that were packaged together during a bottling at a third-party facility
  • Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra that is used to treat erectile dysfunction and is packaged in bottles of 100
  • Trazodone hydrochloride is required to treat depression and is packaged in 1,000 bottles

A pharmaceutical retailer voluntarily recalled packs of Viagra and drugs used to treat depression after they were packaged together through a “mix-up”.

AvKARE announced on Wednesday that a lot of sildenafil and a lot of trazodone tablets were “accidentally packed together while bottling at a third-party facility.”

The 100 mg sildenafil tablets and the 100 mg trazodone tables are being recalled at the consumer level, according to the AvKARE statement.

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra that is used to treat erectile dysfunction and is packaged in bottles of 100.

AvKARE announced on Wednesday that a lot of sildenafil and a lot of trazodone tablets “were inadvertently packed together during filling at a facility in the third part”. Both lots (shown in this table) are being recalled

“Inadvertent consumption of sildenafil can pose a serious health risk to consumers with underlying medical problems,” the company said in a statement

Trazodone hydrochloride is recommended for the treatment of depression and is packaged in 1,000 bottles.

“Inadvertent consumption of sildenafil can pose a serious health risk to consumers with underlying medical problems,” the company said in a statement.

For example, sildenafil can interact with nitrates in some prescription drugs and lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

People with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease often take nitrates.

“Accidental ingestion of trazodone can cause adverse health effects such as drowsiness / sedation, dizziness, constipation and blurred vision,” the company said.

AvKARE said such incidents could be more worrying in elderly patients due to an increased risk of falls and driving problems later on.

They were distributed to the company’s dealers and wholesalers and then redistributed nationwide.
